Jack is a ceramic artist, based in Hampshire, working mainly in porcelain clay.
Every piece is thrown on the wheel, with a focus on producing clean, precise forms. Each angle, curve and proportion is considered.
Jack seeks to draw the viewer towards each piece by creating a contrast between the quiet, unforgiving porcelain and the spontaneous, instinctive decoration and mark making. This is often achieved through the windows of colour that wrap themselves around each piece.
Inspiration comes from the continual search to produce visually pleasing objects through the exploration of different shapes. Gaining an understanding of how each piece consumes the space within which it sits and the feeling this invokes for the viewer is a persistent driving force in all of Jack’s work.
It is equally important to create a sense of elegance and presence in each vessel produced. This allows every vessel to remain connected, yet remote, from the heavy mass of clay from which it once started.
Jack has exhibited work in numerous galleries and ceramics shows including the Oxford Ceramics Fair, Potfest, the New Ashgate gallery, Byard gallery and the Oxmarket gallery.
